Excessive anxiety contributes to a sense of helplessness in which a person feels little control over the present or future and continues maladaptive behaviour. In view of the negative influences of long standing anxiety the present study attempts to understand the influence of anxiety upon the adolescents. An emotionally stable person has the capacity to make effective adjustments with himself, members of his family, and his peers in the world, society and culture. As adolescents are the future and pillars of nation, so it is important to study their anxiety level which might affect their achievement scores. Since adolescence is a huge transition period, it is important time for healthy adjustment. The present study was undertaken to study the anxiety level and achievement scores of adolescent boys and girls. 52 boys and 52 girls within the age of 14 to 18years from Govt. school of Jammu were selected as a sample. Data was collected by administering Sinha's Comprehensive anxiety scale by Sinha (Raipur) and Sinha (Patna). While Sharma Academic Achievement Motivation Test (AAMT) by Sharma was used to measure the academic achievement motivation of school students. Normative survey method and Random sampling technique was used in the present study. The data obtained was analysed statistically and the study revealed that there is no significant difference in the anxiety level and academic achievement scores of adolescents.Keywords

The education of Schedule Castes and Schedule tribes and other backward classes in India has been the focal point of concern in the post-independent India. Although visible progress has occurred in the life of these students, the educational system failed to enable and encourage them to take full advantage of the available opportunities On social level, the parent's occupational status, educational level, parent's educational and occupational aspirations for their children, their attitudes and values and the demand of the school affected the performance adversely. Locus of control is one of the most studied variables in psychology(Rotter1990). Research has documented the important role internal locus of control plays in academic achievement. One of the variables that might contribute to variations in locus of control is parenting styles. Research conducted has shown links between locus of control and parenting styles. This study examined locus of control, parenting styles and academic performance of socially disadvantaged groups. Locus of control and parenting styles were used to determine which of these correlate with academic performance. 30 SC,30 ST and 30 General undergraduate students within the age of 18 to 21 yrs from 2 Govt. colleges of Jammu were selected as a sample. Data was collected by administering Rotter's locus of control scale while parental authority questionnaire by Buri was used to measure perceived parenting styles of college students, the overall average percentage achieved by them in class 5th, 8th, 10th , 12th was taken as their academic performance. Random sampling technique was used in the present study. The data obtained was analysed statistically and the study revealed that there is a significant difference in the locus of control, permissive, authoritarian parenting styles of SC, ST and General undergraduate students. Also a significant correlation was found between locus of control, parenting style and academic performance of undergradute Students.Keywords

The present study tried to analyse related but distinct concepts. It sought to study the relationship between burnout and wellbeing among socially depressed classes. Burnout is a psychological term that refers to long-term exhaustion and diminished interest in work. Burnout has been assumed to result from chronic occupational stress. Job related well being is the extent to which people are satisfied with their jobs. A normative survey method was used. Stratified random samples of members of the school teachers (N=104) 52 male and 52 female teachers working in jammu district was taken. Maslach Burnout Inventory and Job related affective wellbeing scale JAWS were used as measuring instruments. The data obtained was analysed statistically. The results indicated that burnout accounted for significant increments in lower wellbeing associated with job. Also being part of socially depressed class was not significantly associated with burnout and wellbeing.Keywords

Emotions play an important role in the life of an individual and one requires a higher emotional maturity to lead an effective life especially the college students who are observed to be highly emotional in their dealings need to be studied. An emotionally mature person has the capacity to make effective adjustments with himself members of his family, and his peers in the world, society and culture. As college students are the future and pillars of nation, so it is important to study their emotional maturity. Since college is a huge transition for freshers (first year students), it is a time for adjustment. The present study was undertaken to study the emotional maturity and adjustment level of college students. 52 boys and 52 girls within the age of 18 to 21 years from two Govt, colleges of Jammu were selected as a sample. Data was collected by administering Emotional Maturity scale by Singh and Bhargava. While adjustment inventory for college students (AICS) by Sinha and Singh was used to measure the adjustment level of college students. Normative survey method and Random sampling technique was used in the present study. The data obtained was analysed statistically and the study revealed that there is no significant difference in the emotional maturity and adjustment level of college going boys and girls.Keywords
